Mirror as Method
Wanlin Li
Technologist of Seeing and the Construction of the Self
A mirror is a magical device that invites self-gazing. It not only reflects our appearance but actively shapes our experience of selfhood.
Through a series of art practices, this project explores the historical narratives of the mirror in self-construction and positions mirror as a contemporary parable for technologies of self-perception, in the context of social media and generative AI. It outlines how digital life continuously reorganizes our ways of seeing, narrating, and constructing the self.
